BRAND NEW WEBSITE YAHOO!!

10.15.23

Hello, if you're reading this, you are the 1 millionth person to visit my website...

WOW!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU WIN!!!

Anyway, I thought it would be useful to learn to make a website, since I post stuff online and want people to look at it. I'll post all the music I make and probably a few blog posts like this one with a buncha text on em.

I dunno, I doubt many people will read these things since I'm the music guy and not the writing big pages of text guy, but I like writing big pages of text so SUCK IT UP YOU STUPID BABIES. I also thought it would be a good excuse to post work in progress stuff and talk about the music I make, so even for people who don't like to read it won't be too bad. I'll try and put a few songs interespersed throughout each post to keep you people interested, as if each song is a little cookie I give you every time you do your chores.

project name: louis cole slow

I've been working on this song recently, the project file is called "louis cole slow" because I was trying to do a similar thing to the outro song in Louis Cole's video of some of the live performances they did of Park Your Car On My Face. I thought it sounded awesome, the drums on it sound really cool and I really like how it's laidback but still pretty energetic, like really good background music for a menu screen in a game or something. I think the piano solo I did on mine could still use some work, but I like what I have for the rest so far, especially all the modulations that make each section more interesting.

project name: sao sitcom

Here's one where I reharmonized the chorus melody from the opening to Sword Art Online to sound like a sitcom theme. I had the idea when I was humming Too Many Cooks while I was in the kitchen and did the melody from Sword Art Online in the same style, it fit perfectly and made me laugh so I thought it would be a funny idea to turn it into a sitcom theme. I used the "The Sax Brothers" sample library for the sax because someone in the comments of QBomb by Tony Thai said it was the sax he used (at this part in the song), and that it was also used in Sonic Mania. It sounds really good for a sample library so I'll probably use it for other stuff when I need a sax in tha future.

I also did a weird chord reharmonization for the ii-V-I that I'm not sure even works, I used the same idea as reharmonizing the I with the iii in a chord progression, but applied that to the ii, so instead of a ii-V-I it's a bv-V-I, because I reharmonized the ii chord with the chord a major third up from it. (Which doesn't even really make sense since it's a minor chord and I should probably be reharmonizing it with the minor third instead of the major third, but whatever, the major third substitution is cooler anyways.)

A lot of the time I think of each chord as if it's the key center, as if it's like the I chord of the song while it's being played, kind of like how jazz guys play specific chord scales over specific chords instead of just playing from the key they started in. So because I sometimes think of chords like this I thought "huh, what if I did the same reharmonization I would normally do to the I but to the ii?" It doesn't really fit with the fake sitcom style, but that's okay, I think it sounds cool and it sounds better than when I put the actual ii so I think it worked out pretty well.

project name: altered extensions

This was kind of an attempt to write an autumn song but I think the piano/synth section is too silly to fit that theme, so right now it's kind of a silly fusion song with an autumn-y chorus. I watched a video that talked about altered chord extensions, so the first chord is a Cmaj6 add9 add#4, which sort of outlines a D dominant now that I look at it. I was also looking at a midi for Daisy Circuit from Mario Kart Wii, which is in D major but borrows a lot from D minor, so I did some borrowing at the end of the chorus. The song sounds good I think, I should probably finish it.

Alright that's the end of the post you can stop reading now bye bye.
