about

Hello I'm nonomino, I'm a composer from Canada that's been composing since 2018. My specialties are game music, jazz fusion and electronic genres. I'm influenced by the work of Hirofumi Taniguchi, Soyo Oka, Kazumi Totaka, as well as contemporary composers like Jake Kaufman and Tee Lopes. I'm also inspired by a lot of jazz fusion people like Casiopea, Masato Honda and Pat Metheny Group.

Ever since I was a kid I've loved video game music, which made me want to learn the songs from games that I liked on the piano. Through doing this, and using the DAW LMMS, I learned the basics of music theory over the course of a few years.

After dabbling in music composition I attended Langara College, where I studied mixing, mastering, composition and multiple DAWs, recieving a certificate in digital music production.

Since then I've composed for multiple game jam projects, DEADPLAN, a top-down action game about a robot that gets stronger by assimilating other robots, and Woober World, a fake game soundtrack I made with Of Ether. I
am currently composing for Punch Monkey, a sidescrolling beat 'em up in the style of 2010s flash games.

When I'm not doing music stuff I watch movies, play games, and work on this website.

My main DAW is LMMS, which is free alternative to FL Studio designed for Linux. It sucks, it's incredibly buggy, isn't compatible with most VSTs, freezes constantly and hasn't been updated in over two years, but I really like the UI and workflow of it. I don't recommend you use it, Fl studio and Logic are much better. I also have Ableton and Logic Pro, but I don't use them much.

Some of my most used VSTs are Serum, Kontakt, the VST versions of the XV-5080 and JV-1080, Addictive Drums 2, NES VST, VOPM, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Phenome (A soundfont player with an ADSR editor, it's buggy and sometimes loads soundfonts incorrectly, but it's still pretty good), SNES Delay, Vulf Compressor, Wider (this one kind of sucks since it makes things sound like they're phasing and lean to the left or right when they're are widened, but it's still useful), KHs essentials (mainly the compressor, reverb, stereo and delay), Blackbox Analog Design HG-2, and TDR Nova (which is my main EQ).

I also use a lot of soundfonts, my favourites are Arachno Soundfont, Chaos Bank, SGM, Orpheus, Squidfont Orchestral, ultimate guitar kit, a Roland SC-55 soundfont, GeneralUser GS (the default windows midi instruments), MauiFM, FB01 and R_FM (these last 3 are for FM synth stuff, mainly for drums. One of them has way better drums then the rest, but I don't remember which) I also use a lot of game soundfonts, William Kage makes a lot of good SNES ones, I recommend checking out his site if you want to make SNES style stuff. iteachvader also makes a lot of good game soundfonts, but he seperates each instrument into their own individual soundfont, so it's pretty annoying to look through them. Musical Artifacts is also really good for finding soundfonts, there's a lot of cool stuff on there.

I also have an acoustic guitar, 3 midi keyboards (tiny, small and big) and an audio interface. The headphones I use are Hifiman HE400i's plugged into an Xbox One controller, because the Hifiman cable is too short.
